Goodbye to Lake Mead, Oct. 31
Despite our plans to get an early start on our haul-out and trip to Yuma, Chris really wanted to look for the lost dinghy seat. He was convinced that with the strong wind of the day before, the board would be blown ashore somewhere between where we anchored and the Marina. He was pretty sure the dinghy seat was lost in that area. Seemed like a lot of work to me for a piece of wood that could be easily and reasonably purchased at a hardware store along the way, but he was attached to it (unlike the dingy-Chris’ comment). So…we started motoring in and out of every convoluted cove towards the marina, and around each little island and rock.
Chris motored while I gazed at the shore with binoculars. We had reached the last little bay with no luck when Chris said, “Okay, I guess it is lost, let’s just check out this last little arroyo and then call it quits.”
Approaching the arroyo, Chris thought he saw something, and sure enough, there was the dinghy seat. A little banged up, but still quite serviceable.
Chris is quite fond of saying we can put the boat in the water in under two hours, and sometimes we can, but hauling the boat out at Temple Bar took hours. Because people were waiting to use the ramp, we took our chance that our first attempt to put the boat on the trailer would be fine. When we tried to secure it, we discovered it was not sitting properly on the trailer. We had to re-float the boat and put it on the trailer again. Everything else went smoothly, just slowly in the hot Arizona sun.
We got on the road around 4 pm as the sun was low on the horizon and headed to Yuma. We thoroughly enjoyed sailing in Lake Mead. The views were incredible, the fresh water a treat, and the plant and animal life entertaining and fun to observe.

The next part of the journey takes us back to Baja, a place we enjoyed immensely in the past; a place with expansive vistas, warm sun, cooling breezes, great food, amazing marine life and fun beaches.
