Honeymoon Bay, cont., Dec. 28 - Walkabout
We pumped up the dinghy and it seem to hold the air. Don came by in the afternoon, picked up Chris and they went to the next beach south and east to climb up to a high hill with an interesting cave and some anticipated great views. The hike up was a make-your-own-trail experience. After some time winding their way around cactus and traversing some slippery and steep scree covered slopes Chris and Don got to the small cave. Though not large or deep the view was really great.
Off to the north there was something amazing. On the island near the top of a hill was a geological feature that was filled with dark, deep water. It seemed almost man made, some sort of small reservoir maybe for some mining project. Even though it was late the decision was made to again bushwhack over to this very interesting feature. It was a tough climb down, up and sideways, the last part over some really unstable slope. Upon cresting a ridge, there it was, a short overhanging cliff face with a deep shadow underneath. No water, just a very good illusion of something both hikers had convinced themselves was real and adjusted their perceptions and observations to match. Hmmm seems like this has happened before.
